Research Nova Scotia Announces International Nursing Research Program

(Halifax, NS) Research Nova Scotia is announcing an investment of $285,000 in an International Nursing Research Program, created to support opportunities for bilateral research projects with India and the Philippines.

“Nova Scotia’s agreements with these countries for medical professional training presented a new opportunity for research collaboration,” says Stefan Leslie, CEO of Research Nova Scotia. “Research funded through this program will support international research teams to work on improving the delivery of health care in our province.”

The program is open to researchers at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Health and The Rankin School of Nursing at St. Francis Xavier University to work with colleagues in the Philippines or India. Research grants will support projects for up to two years to a maximum of $30,000 each.

“Research funded through this program must be of relevance and value to nursing here in Nova Scotia as well as the participating country,” says Leslie.

Submissions considered for funding must consider the Province of Nova Scotia’s Action for Health, demonstrate alignment with RNS’s Healthy People and Health Care Systems pillar and clearly articulate how the project contributes to one or more of the following health missions:

  • Strengthen our health care delivery system
  • Care for vulnerable populations
  • Prevent negative impacts to health and wellbeing

“This is wonderful news. Funding for the new International Nursing Research Program provides an opportunity to work with our colleagues in India and the Philippines on new research initiatives,” according to Dr. Joanne Whitty-Rogers, Director of the Rankin School of Nursing. “We anticipate that these partnerships will assist in developing research that will enhance healthcare in our communities in Nova Scotia.”
