FOCUSED rESEARCH iNVESTMENTS
Objective: Focused Research Investments (FRI) is a new initiative created to tackle the salient issues of our time using a mission-oriented approach while providing the funding and resources required to meet specific outcomes.
Available Funding: Between $5 and $20 million over 5 to 7 years

Match Funding
Partnership: Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Genome Canada (GC)
Objective: Supports research initiatives convened by other Competition Granting Organizations that require match funding.

Ukrainian Emergency Research Support Fund
Objective: Research Nova Scotia is offering immediate research support funding for Ukrainian students and researchers who are relocating to Canada, either temporarily or permanently, as a result of the Russian invasion.

Scotia Scholars Award: Master’s Programs
Objective: Provides financial support to students with exceptional potential who are, or wish to be, engaged in a health research project at participating institutions.
Participating Institutions: Acadia University, Atlantic School of Theology, Dalhousie University, Mount Saint Vincent University, NSCAD University, Saint Mary’s University
Available Funding: $12,500 per annum, for up to 2 years

Scotia Scholars Award: DOCTORAL Programs
Objective: Provides financial support to students with exceptional potential who are, or wish to be, engaged in a health research project at participating institutions.

Available Funding: $18,750 per annum, for up to 4 years

International Nursing REsearch Program
Objective: This program will provide financial support to researchers who are undertaking bilateral research projects involving investigators from universities in Nova Scotia and investigators from universities in India and/or the Philippines to impact the delivery of health care in this province.
Participating Institutions: Dalhousie University Faculty of Health, The Rankin School of Nursing at St. Francis Xavier University.
Available Funding: Up to $30,000

Intentional research
Objective: With Intentional Research, our team works directly with researchers and partners to convene or co-design projects aligned one or more of our 16 missions. While this may differ from how projects are typically funded, taking a proactive or intentional approach allows Research Nova Scotia to fulfil our mandate to mobilize research in service of the province.
Available Funding: Variable
Scotia Scholars Award: Undergraduate Programs
Objective: Provides financial support to students with exceptional potential who are, or wish to be, engaged in a health research project at participating institutions.

Environmental DNA Innovation Fund
Partnership: Genome Atlantic
Objective: Provide financial support to organizations to foster the adoption and development of eDNA approaches that lead to regional impact
Available Funding: Grants from $30,000-$50,000
Applications Due: February 12, 2024
New Health Investigator Grant
Objective: Supports early-career health researchers who are engaged in work that aligns with the province’s health research priorities.
Available Funding: $100,000 for up to two years

Atlantic Climate Research Collaboration
Partners: Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI)
Objective: A new initiative co-sponsored by Research Nova Scotia and Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) will tackle complex problems related to climate change and its impacts on coastal communities.
Available Funding: Estimates $50,000-$100,000 for up to three years
